Beautifying Papaya + Pea Shoot Salad

APL loves including the ultimate beauty-inducing foods in our daily diet and papaya was on my list for recipe creation in the APL Kitchen STAT thanks to its ridiculously incredible digestive enzyme profile and its ability to bring beauty from within out in a glow-tastic way! So here is an APL Big Bad Ass Bowl with some papaya love!

What’s up with Papaya?

Papaya contains papain, which helps break down digestive protein and has anti-inflammatory properties – this fruit is actually pricked and the enzymes are removed to put into digestive enzyme supplements! Papaya can help calm the digestive tract and ease flatulence (yes, gas can be gone with a tasty fruit vs some silly gas x pill.) They have many anti-cancer properties, immune-boosting and collagen-promoting vitamin C, vitamin A (not usually found in fruits,) and calcium. That is a pretty fantastic nutrient profile if you ask me!

The skin benefits greatly from papaya; both eating it and applying it topically. Their alkaline mineral content helps stimulate new healthy skin to form and can help tighten the skin’s collagen tissue to rid you of nasty wrinkles. Who needs botox when you’ve got Papaya in the house!?!

Ladies, have you heard? 

Half-ripe papayas are often prescribed by raw food nutritionists to breast cancer patients as a way to kill the protein-laden material surrounding cancerous tumors.

Now………time to eat it!

For the Salad:

  • 1 cup green beans, halved
  • 1/2 cup pea shoots
  • 1/2 cup radishes, sliced + quartered (for the beautifying health info on radishes, check out our Goji Berry Beauty Bowl it’s linked too)
  • 1/2 cup papaya, diced
  • 1 TB red onion, diced
  • 1 TB hemp hearts
  • 2 Thai chiles, crushed
  • 1 1/2 TB lime juice
  • 1 tsp Bragg’s liquid aminos
  • 1 TB hemp oil, cold-pressed
  • 1/2 avocado, mashed
  • mineral salt, to taste

To Make: 

Place the first 6 ingredients (green beans through the hemp hearts) into a large salad bowl. In a smaller bowl, crush the thai chiles, then add in the lime juice, Bragg’s, oil, salt, and avocado- mix well. If you feel like you need to use a blender to make it smoother, go ahead! Top the salad with the dressing + enjoy!
