Eating Out Healthy with APL: Meli Cafe

A big part of the APL mission is living a healthy, happy life REALISTICALLY. So many things surrounding health are geared towards deprivation, restriction, + downright NO fun! Eating out is a part of our lives and it should be- being social is a part of being healthy! To prove this point, we ventured out to one of our favorite Chicago spots, Meli Cafe, with some seriously amazing ladies in tow and had a chatty lunch together. Part of the discussion being how to order “smart” when you are out so the guilt doesn’t creep up, but the enjoyment + tastiness is still there on a plate in front of you. Definitely easy to do at Meli too!

We chatted about all of our careers – each one of us their very own #GIRLBOSS – so the biggest commonality we all had was that we’re crazy busy. Being healthy with a schedule that’s nuts is tough, so that is why being armed with the tools to make the best choices in these situations is key to successfully maintaining your healthy living goals.

We certainly burned calories laughing- the ENTIRE time. Meli has a very positive, lively environment that’s conducive to this kind of gabfest. I actually feel like I’ve stepped into someone’s home at all 3 locations I venture out to -it’s warm and inviting. We certainly made ourselves at home for 2+ hours!

WHAT WE ORDERED:

It is amazing that they cater to all types of eaters (with a vegan and gluten-free section) and their menu is HUGE – there’s something for anyone + everyone…Here were our choices around the table.

My order was the Vegetable Omelette with egg whites + sans the cheese. Filled with healthy veggies I love, I topped it with salsa instead of ketchup, but kept the breakfast potatoes because this lady had worked out HARD that morning!

See that smile? It’s because who you surround yourself with gives you a particular energy and these ladies filled me with happiness, appreciation, love, + giggles! So happy to have brought them to a spot where you can not only eat well, but relax, sit back, + be happy.
