WCIU You & Me This Morning: Veggie Cocktails

Booze with that Fresh-Pressed Juice? Why, yes please!

We all know we need to get in our veggies, but some of us (ahem, new moms,) need an adult beverage every now and then too, so why not double up?!?

 KALETINI:

  • 1 oz fresh pressed cucumber juice
  • ½ oz fresh pressed celery juice
  • 1 oz fresh pressed lime juice
  • ½ oz fresh pressed lemon juice
  • ½ oz fresh pressed kale juice
  • 1 oz fresh pressed apple juice
  • 1½ oz CH distillery vodka
  • Ice

To Make:

  • Put a martini glass in the freezer to chill.
  • Pour all juices in a shaker filled with ice.
  • Add vodka- shake well.
  • Grab the martini glass and pour the contents of the shaker into the glass through a strainer (no ice.)

Health Focus: Kale

  • Nearly 3 grams of protein per serving
  • Fiber (which helps manage blood sugar + makes you feel full)
  • Vitamins A, C, and K
  • Folate, a B vitamin that’s key for brain development
  • Alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid. (While kale has far less omega-3 than fish, it is another way to get some of this healthy fat into your diet.
  • Lutein and zeaxanthin, nutrients that give kale its deep, dark green coloring and protect against macular degeneration and cataracts.
  • Minerals including phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and zinc

SPICY PEPPERCORN BLOODY MARY:  the quick fix

  • 2 oz. CH distillery Peppercorn Vodka
  • 4 oz. Organic Vegetable Juice
  • 1 slice Jalapeno to garnish

To Make:

  • Pour peppercorn vodka and juice together into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Shake and strain into a glass almost filled with ice cubes. Float a slice of jalapeno pepper on top, and serve.

BEETINI:

  • 2 oz fresh beet juice
  • 2 oz  CH distillery vodka
  • 1 tsp coconut nectar or organic agave
  • ¼ tsp fresh ginger, minced
  • ½ oz fresh lemon juice
  • ½ oz fresh lime juice
  • Ice

To Make:

  • Put a martini glass in the freezer to chill.
  • Mix coconut nectar or agave with the ginger – bring to a boil over medium heat in a stockpot with 2 TB of water, remove from the heat and mix well.
  • Pour all of the juices and ginger-nectar mixture all juices in a shaker filled with ice.
  • Add vodka- shake well.
  • Grab the martini glass and pour the contents of the shaker into the glass through a strainer (no ice.) 

Health Focus: Beets

  • Did you know beets rev up your sex drive- woot! Thank the boron in them!
  • Beets are a natural detoxifier/cleanser
  • They are high in minerals: potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and iron,
  • They supply good amounts of vitamins: A, B & C, beta-carotene, beta-cyanine, and folic acid.
  • They have our fave digestive aid; fiber!

CARROT COOLER:

  • 5 oz fresh pressed carrot juice
  • 1 TB fresh lemon juice
  • 2 oz CH distillery rum
  • ice

To Make:

  • We love this frozen- just blend it with ice & enjoy!

  • Beta-carotene and antioxidants galore help slow aging
  • Fiber and vitamin A content help cleanse the body of toxins
