WCIU You & Me This Morning: Satisfy Your Summer Cravings

This morning we were on WCIU chatting with my fave ladies about how to satisfy your summer cravings withhealthified favorites. It’s all about making smart, but tasty choices that don’t set you into deprivation mode. Here are the recipes + some info on what we made!

Summer Sausages by Applegate

Applegate has some amazingly yummy new flavors for dinner sausages that are a Summer staple in my fridge! The three sausages I can’t get enough of include: the Natural Beer Brat, the Natural Chicken + Cheddar Sausage, + the Natural Peach Jerk Sausage (that I ate last night + am now salivating over.) These are worry-free meats because they have no antibiotics, hormones, non-GMO, no nitrates or nitrites, humanly raised product. We pan-grill ours up + serve them in a whole grain bun or a Romaine lettuce leaf for carb-free fix.

Sweet Earth’s Benevolent Bacon BBLT

Sweet Earth’s Benevolent Bacon is an incredibly yummy vegan and 100% non-GMO bacon that leaves you satisfied with it’s crunchy goodness that’s literally just like the real thing, but with a healthy nutrition profile thanks to:

  • 75% Less Fat that pork bacon
  • 57% Fewer Calories than Pork Bacon
  • Only 120mg sodium
  • 10g protein
  • zero cholesterol
  • only 90 calories

APL makes the BBLT with whole grain, toasted bread, a tomato slice, romaine lettuce, 2 slices of bacon, + our Sriracha veganaise (1 TB vegan mayo with 1/2 TB Sriracha)

Protein + Veg Pasta Salad

Using quinoa flour-based pasta has protein in it, which will keep you fuller, longer + is naturally gluten-free.

We were looking for a light pasta recipe that won’t leave you feeling heavy or guilty? Try using raw veggies like healthy greens for volume, color, + nutrients.  Then, pair it with a healthy pesto sauce. APL added raw veggies like: cucumber, bell peppers, red onion, tomatoes, + mixed greens for a room temp salad to-die-for!

APL Summer Quinoa Salad

Simply prep 1 cup of quinoa + 1/2 shallot (chopped,) with 1 1/2 TB Goji berries, 1 cup of greens, + 2 TB yogurt-based honey mustard dressing. SO EASY!
