Heirloom Tomatoes Rock!
There are so many things I love about Heirloom Tomatoes.
Here are my top three!
1. There are over 600 varieties that are incredibly diverse in appearance. I love how awkward and unique they all look! Yellow, orange, red, purple, green, striped, round, oblong, pumpkin-like, small, medium, large…they come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
2. Yum! These tasty tomatoes provide you with an amazingly delicious alternative to the run-of-the-mill varieties and make for an amazing summer salad.
Ten popular varieties include:
- Red currant
- Golden Jubilee
- Garden Peach
- Cherokee Purple
- San Marzano
- Kellogg’s Breakfast
- Costoluto Genovese
- Yellow Pear
- Mortgage Lifter
A great way to serve them is to cut them into thick slices, sit them atop fresh Basil coarsely chopped, then drizzle a tiny bit of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze on them and sprinkle sea salt on top.
When served at the right time, these tomatoes do not need help to taste good.
3. Other benefits of Heirloom tomatoes include being able to easily grow them yourself, organically during the proper time of year. Check out more on growing these fruits at the Tasteful Garden’s website: http://bit.ly/aYOPX4.
I favor the yellow versions as seen on my counter today and in my salad at lunch!
