Concept #1: Eat light to heavy to have better digestion throughout the day-starting off heavy and with poor digestion causes a traffic jam in your body, which prevents nutrients from not being absorbed and leaves food sitting in our bellies causing fermentation, acidity, gas, indigestion, and so much more in the body. Juice can add in nutrient-rich veggie servings, give you added energy, and start your day off in a healthy way.
3 Featured APL Juices:
- Lean, Mean, Green: 2 Cups spinach, 1 peeled cucumber, 1 ½ stalks celery, 1 small apple, large handful of parsley, 1 lemon, ice
- Gazpacho: ¼ red onion, 4 plum tomatoes, 1 red pepper, 2 celery stalks, 1 peeled cucumber, 2 handfuls parsley, 1 lime, ice
- Sweet Juice: 3 peeled carrots, 1 beet (we used yellow beets on the segment,) 1 small apple, 1“ piece of ginger
Concept #2: Raw veggies 20 minutes before your main meals will set an alkaline environment in your bellow to improve digestion as well as fill you up on fiber and water from the veggies so you eat less at meals.
Concept #3: Lunch is still light, veggie-centric, with whole grains to keep you fuller, longer. We made our APLstuffed yellow pepper meal with quinoa instead of rice for added protein! Concept #4: Detox water can be sipped throughout the day to increase the metabolism (cayenne pepper,) flush out toxins (lemon,) and tame the tummy (ginger.)
Detox Water Recipe: Mix up 16 oz of detox water to have throughout your day with 2 “ ginger, 2 lemons juiced, & 1 tsp cayenne pepper
Concept #5: Introduce clean animal protein at the last meal of the day- an earlier dinner. Chemical-free meat (best deli brand: Applegate Farms) & seafood (best brand: wild planet) is best at dinner so you have all night to digest it. Pair it with tons of greens and no starch to have a smooth digestive process throughout the night. We simply baked salmon with dijon mustard on top and chicken with extra virgin olive oil, lemon, & basil!
Concept #6: (we did not get to) You may want to commit to fasting for 14-16 hours a few days a week to give your digestive system a break this month. Stop eating around 3-4PM and start back up the next morning around 7AM.
